

On this Thursday morning, the 35th 3-Cushions Team World Championship was ceremoniously opened in Viersen. Thus, the traditional event returns to the festival hall, where it has been held since 1990.
After the participating teams were invited into the arena by announcer Frank Schiffers, Viersen’s mayor Sabine Anemüller and the president of the Deutsche Billard-Union, Helmut Biermann, welcomed the athletes, officials and spectators present on site and in the livestream.
Finally, Farouk Barki, president of the world federation UMB, officially opened the World Championship.
The 16 teams will initially play in four groups of four in a round-robin format with the first and second-placed teams advancing to the quarterfinals. The defending champion is the duo from Turkey, which will play their first match against the United States at 6:00 p.m. today.
The World Championship was opened at 12:00 p.m. with the matches Belgium vs. Sweden and Austria vs. Vietnam. Host Germany plays for the first time at 4:00 p.m., facing off against the team from Egypt. The final will take place next Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
