The host nation Germany failed to qualify for the quarterfinals at the 3-Cushion Team World Championships. In the Viersen Festhalle, the team had to win against Belgium. However, this task proved to be very difficult from the beginning for Ronny Lindemann and the only 16-year-old Amir Ibraimov.

Lindemann quickly fell into a significant deficit against Eddy Merckx, which he couldn’t equalize despite a very nice comeback. On the second table, Ibraimov was constantly close to catching up with Philipoom at the beginning of the match, before the Belgian managed a match-deciding run of 12 points.

In the second match of the group, Sweden defeated Egypt 4:0, securing first place and a spot in the quarterfinals. Belgium also secured their quarterfinal spot after the victory over Germany.

Group C is also concluded, with France securing first place after a 4:0 win over Jordan. In the battle for second place, Japan prevailed, defeating not only Jordan but also the Netherlands 4:0 today, after their initial loss to France.

Defending champion Turkey suffered some setbacks today in Group A against the Spaniards. While Tolgahan Kiraz defeated his opponent Sergio Jimenez at table two, Tayfun Tasdemir lost to Ruben Legazpi. In the second match of the group, Vietnam had no major problems against Argentina and is now level with Turkey before the final matches on Saturday.

Last but not least, South Korea defeated the team from Colombia 3:1 in Group B, while the USA and Greece drew 2:2 in parallel matches.

In both groups, fans can look forward to exciting final encounters on Saturday before the knockout phase begins with the quarterfinals at 5:00 p.m.
